- Prepare a required site plan: a scaled, bird's-eye view showing lot dimensions, structure footprints, driveway locations, setbacks, and utility systems.
- For subdivisions and boundary adjustments, a state-licensed surveyor's survey is mandatory.
- Submit completed application with fee. Fees may be paid online at https://shaftsburyvt.gov/information/pay-fees.php.
- Await Zoning Administrator review.
- Vermont's mandatory 15-day appeal period begins after permit approval before construction may commence (abutters may challenge).
- Post permit on job site.
- For public/commercial buildings, also file DFS state construction permit.
