Application Process

  1. Contact the Lake County Planning, Zoning, and Natural Resources Office to determine if a construction permit is required.

  3. Prepare site plan drawn to scale showing: property lines, all abutting roads/alleys/easements, all existing structures and fences, proposed building placement, top of foundation elevations, building dimensions, and distances to property lines.
  4. Submit two (2) copies to the office and one (1) copy to the Surveyor's office with required documentation.
  5. The application is reviewed by the Zoning and Building Divisions of the Lake County Plan Commission.
  6. Applicant is notified if permit is approved and the fee amount is established.
  7. Applicant has thirty (30) days from permit issuance to pick up the permit and pay the fee.
  8. Construction must be started within six (6) months of issuance.
  9. Notify the office 24 hours in advance when construction is ready for inspection. Requests received by phone or email prior to 7:30 AM will be scheduled for inspection that same day.
