Application Process

  1. Confirm the parcel is in unincorporated Jefferson County (not within city or village corporate limits or Fairbury's extraterritorial jurisdiction) using the county GIS map at https://jefferson.gworks.com/ or by calling (402) 729-3602.
  2. Download the Zoning Permit application form from https://jeffersoncounty.nebraska.gov/sites/default/files/doc/Zoning%20Permit%2012%2012%202025.pdf or pick up in person at 313 S. K Street.
  3. Prepare required documents: completed application, site plan showing structure footprint and setbacks from property lines and road rights-of-way, parcel legal description, and contractor information.
  4. If the proposed use requires a Conditional Use Permit (CUP), download and complete the CUP application and justification form separately; submit concurrently with the Zoning Permit application.
  5. Submit completed applications in person during office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM) at 313 South K Street, Fairbury, NE 68352.
