Building permits for commercial and non-exempt structures are issued by the Montana State Building Codes Program (state-administered), NOT by the county. The County CDP handles zoning, land use, subdivision, floodplain, and access permits. Applicants typically need to coordinate with BOTH the county (for zoning/land use) AND the state (for building permits).
